Ainovo’s $100 Android Tablet hits the shelves – good news for Cloud hosted VDI!

Well, almost. It’s currently sold out, but the Ainovo tablet running a MIPS processor at 1Ghz and featuring Android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich) promises to be the best deal since HP discounted their touchpads to $99 when they announced end of life plans for the WebOS based device. Ainovo’s new offering looks pretty slick, and features 8 hours of battery life for continuous video playback, 25 hours for audio playback and is powered by a 444Mhz GPU, in addition to the MIPS processor. The 7 inch capacitive touch screen allows 1080p full frame playback and the device also features xFAT storage to allow for USB connectivity for storage devices. Additionally, for video conferencing and photography, Ainovo has added dual cameras, front and rear facing. This is a pretty complete device, running a modern OS, a high speed processor and a capacitive touchscreen for $100 retail! As we said earlier in our post about the Kindle Fire tablet, the time for cheap endpoints has arrived. You will see a profusion of such devices which are powerful enough to connect to VMs in the Cloud and deliver a full fledged computing experience without needing to be based on x86 technology. Yes, you can’t run MS Word on this tablet directly, but with Cloud hosted VDI, you can! […]
